The furnace and air conditioner can only deliver what the duct system will carry.
Undersized returns, restricted branches, poor register placement and leaky or uninsulated ducts can leave a house uncomfortable even when the equipment is operating properly.

What to know before changing the air system.
A visible duct run is only part of the picture. Equipment, blower capacity, returns, room loads and access all affect what will work.
How can I tell if the ductwork is causing a comfort problem?+
Common signs include weak airflow, rooms that run hotter or colder than the rest of the house, noisy registers, long equipment run times and temperature differences between floors. The duct system, filter, blower setup and equipment all need to be checked before deciding what is responsible.
Can EMH Mechanical add or relocate supply and return ducts?+
Yes. We modify supply and return ductwork for remodels, additions, equipment changes and rooms with poor air distribution. The available space, system capacity and existing duct layout determine what can be changed without creating another airflow problem.
Why is one room always too hot or too cold?+
A room can be uncomfortable because of duct sizing, a restricted run, missing return-air paths, insulation, windows, equipment setup or the room load itself. We check the system instead of assuming that adding a larger register will fix it.
Do old ducts always need to be replaced?+
No. Some systems need targeted repairs, sealing, insulation or layout changes. Others are too undersized, damaged or poorly arranged to correct in pieces. We look at condition, access and airflow before recommending repair or replacement.
Can you design ductwork for an addition or renovation?+
Yes. We plan new ductwork and modifications for additions, finished basements, remodels and custom residential spaces. Equipment capacity, available chases, register placement, return-air paths and access for future service are reviewed before the work begins.
What type of residential ventilation work do you handle?+
Our ventilation work includes bath exhaust, kitchen and range-hood exhaust, dryer and specialty exhaust, fresh-air ducting and ERV systems. The exact scope depends on the building, equipment, termination location and applicable code requirements.
What does an ERV do?+
An energy recovery ventilator brings in controlled outdoor air while exhausting stale indoor air. It transfers some heat and moisture between the two air streams, which can reduce the heating or cooling penalty compared with uncontrolled ventilation.
