Diagnosis & Repair
Testing for ignition, combustion, controls, venting, leaking connections and other serviceable problems.
Residential hot-water equipment
EMH Mechanical repairs and replaces residential water heaters, including standard gas, power-vent, high-efficiency and tankless equipment. We check the unit, venting, gas supply and installation conditions before recommending a replacement.

Choose the right replacement
Tank size matters, but recovery rate, venting and fuel capacity matter too.
A 40- or 50-gallon label does not tell the whole story. Burner input, first-hour rating, incoming water temperature and the way the household uses hot water determine whether the equipment can keep up.
Before installing a different type or size, we check the available gas, vent route, electrical requirements, drain location, clearances and service access.
Water heater work
Service for existing equipment and replacement options based on the home, fuel supply, venting and hot-water demand.
Testing for ignition, combustion, controls, venting, leaking connections and other serviceable problems.
Standard atmospheric gas water heaters selected around capacity, recovery, venting and available space.
Power-vent equipment installed with approved vent materials, electrical power and exterior clearances.
On-demand equipment sized around incoming water temperature, flow rate and simultaneous fixture use.
Condensing and other high-efficiency applications reviewed for venting, condensate and installation requirements.
Accessible draft, vent connector, termination and material corrections included when stated in the work scope.
Equipment connections, shutoffs and accessible piping changes required for the selected replacement.
Temperature-and-pressure relief drainage, drain pans, condensate and expansion control where required.
Repair or replace
Ignition parts, controls, valves and external piping can sometimes be repaired when the tank itself is not leaking and the overall installation is still in usable condition.
A leaking tank is not repaired. Replacement may also be the better choice when age, repeated failures, poor recovery or an unsafe installation make additional repair hard to justify.

Multifamily water heating
Multifamily properties can put much heavier demand on their hot-water equipment than a single home. Capacity, recovery, venting, gas supply, controls and service access all have to be reviewed together.
EMH Mechanical installs and services water-heating equipment for apartment and multifamily properties. We inspect the existing system and spell out the equipment, piping and related work included in the proposal.
Discuss a Multifamily ProjectReplacement process
We review the existing unit, leak or failure, venting, gas, water and installation space.
Capacity, recovery, fuel type and venting requirements are matched to the home.
The proposal identifies the equipment, piping changes, vent work and other included corrections.
The old unit is removed and the new water heater and agreed mechanical connections are completed.
We check operation, draft or venting, combustion where applicable, temperature and visible leaks.
Written equipment and labor terms
Water heater manufacturer coverage varies by brand and model. EMH Mechanical lists the equipment, included installation work and applicable labor warranty in the proposal so the coverage is clear.
*Registration, maintenance, water quality and other manufacturer requirements may apply.Photos of the full water heater, model and serial label, vent connection, nearby piping and the installation room help us understand what is already there.
For a tankless estimate, include the household size, bathrooms and any fixtures expected to run at the same time.

Water heater questions
The tank, burner, vent, gas supply and household demand all affect the recommendation.
Age alone does not decide whether a water heater needs replacement, but tank condition, leakage, venting, combustion, recovery and repair history matter. Many conventional tank water heaters are evaluated more closely once they are around 10 years old, especially if corrosion or leakage is present.
A leaking fitting, valve or piping connection may be repairable. A tank that is leaking through the jacket or from the tank itself generally requires replacement. We locate the source before recommending the next step.
A standard atmospheric water heater uses natural draft through a metal vent. A power-vent model uses a blower to move combustion gases through an approved vent system. The existing vent, installation location, gas supply, electrical access and replacement layout determine which type can be used.
No. Tankless equipment can provide long draws of hot water, but the unit must be sized for incoming water temperature and simultaneous demand. Gas capacity, venting, electrical power, water quality and maintenance access all have to be checked first.
Sometimes, but tank size is only one factor. Burner input, recovery rate, temperature setting, fixture demand and usage pattern determine how much hot water is available. We review the cause before recommending a larger unit.
Yes. When included in the agreed scope, we correct accessible venting, gas piping, shutoffs, drain piping and related mechanical items that do not meet the equipment requirements or applicable code. Larger building-wide piping changes may require a separate scope.
Yes. Maintenance requirements vary by manufacturer and water conditions, but periodic flushing, inlet-screen cleaning, combustion inspection and checking the condensate system may be required. The installation paperwork should be followed for the specific model.
